As Children’s Policy Analyst, Heather Petit coordinates, implements, and carries out a variety of legislative initiatives for the agency. She is the key contact for community, State and philanthropic partners as well as legislators on the State’s Two-Generational Initiative. In addition, she administers Connecticut’s parent leadership training working closely with field experts and communities on parent leadership curriculum, evaluation metrics, and outcomes. Working with or on behalf of children the majority of her professional life, she taught first grade for several years at a private school in New London, worked in the investigations unit at the Connecticut Department of Children and Families as well as working at the Connecticut General Assembly’s Commission on Children. Heather has taught courses on office administration and Microsoft Office at Capital Community College, studied psychology at the University of Connecticut and was co-editor of UConn Avery Point’s student newspaper, The Point. As a mother of a young daughter, she enjoys working with parents and schools on improving literacy outcomes for children, volunteering in her daughter’s classroom, and spending time with her family.
